1Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2act relating to the public school system, including certain
3provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5laws relating thereto," in terms and courses of study,
6providing for protection from sexual abuse.

7The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8hereby enacts as follows:

9Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
10as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
11section to read:

12Section 1513.1. Protection from Sexual Abuse.--(a) In
13kindergarten, elementary and secondary schools, there shall be a
14course of instruction in recognition and reporting of sexual
15abuse of children.

16(b) The course of instruction shall include:

17(1) Understanding appropriate and inappropriate contact.

18(2) Recognition of sexually predatory behavior. This
19paragraph includes secretive locations, language and activity.

1(3) Reporting procedures. This paragraph includes
2identification of adults who can be of assistance to a victim.

3(c) The course of instruction shall be prepared and adopted
4according to age levels by the Department of Education with the
5advice and counsel of the Council of Basic Education and the
6approval of the State Board of Education.

7Section 2. The addition of section 1513.1 of the act shall
8apply to school years beginning after June 30, 2013.

9Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
