AN ACT

 

1Designating the interchange of US Route 119 and US Route 22 in
2Burrell Township, Indiana County, as the Staff Sergeant Glen
3H. Stivison, Jr., Memorial Interchange.

4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:

6Section 1. Staff Sergeant Glen H. Stivison, Jr., Memorial
7Interchange.

8(a) Findings.--

9(1) Staff Sergeant Glen H. Stivison, Jr., an honored and
10decorated soldier, was born on May 10, 1975, in Homer City,
11Pennsylvania, and graduated from Blairsville High School,
12where he lettered in football and wrestling.

13(2) Staff Sergeant Stivison enlisted in the United
14States Army in September 1996 and completed training as a

1combat engineer.

2(3) Staff Sergeant Stivison proudly served his country
3in Korea, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

4(4) On October 15, 2009, Staff Sergeant Stivison made
5the ultimate sacrifice while leading a rescue mission near
6the Kandahar River Bridge in the Kandahar region of
7Afghanistan when the vehicle he was commanding was struck by
8an improvised explosive device. <-He was posthumously awarded a 
9Bronze Star and Purple Heart medal.

10(5) Staff Sergeant Stivison is survived by his wife, the
11former Eryn Leaver, sons, William and Andrew Stivison,
12parents Glen and Jan Stivison, <-and three brothers two 
13brothers, Bill and Ben Stivison, and one sister, Carey 
14Stivison Harper.

15(b)  Designation.--The interchange of US Route 119 and US
16Route 22 in Burrell Township, Indiana County, is hereby
17designated the Staff Sergeant Glen H. Stivison, Jr., Memorial
18Interchange.

19(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
20maintain appropriate signs to indicate the designation of this
21section.

22Section 2. Effective date.

23This act shall take effect immediately.
