AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled,
2as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third,
3fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending,
4revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating
5thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties,
6including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the
7rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and
8providing for regional renaissance initiatives," in special
9powers and duties of counties, providing for county humane
10officers.

11The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
12hereby enacts as follows:

13Section 1. Article XIX of the act of August 9, 1955
14(P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by
15adding a subdivision to read:

16(z.3) Other Powers and Duties

17Section 1999j. County Humane Officers.--The county
18commissioners may employ a county humane officer who shall be
19authorized to enforce dog control as defined in the act of
20December 7, 1982 (P.L.784, No.225), known as the Dog Law, and
21animal cruelty laws of this Commonwealth as contained in 18

1Pa.C.S. § 5511 (relating to cruelty to animals). In order to be
2eligible for employment as a county humane officer, an
3individual must meet the training requirements contained in 22
4Pa.C.S. §§ 3712 (relating to training program) and 3713
5(relating to continuing education program).

6Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
