A RESOLUTION

Designating August 15, 2011, as "County Commissioners

2

Association of Pennsylvania Day."

WHEREAS, The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania

4

(CCAP) has provided this Commonwealth's 67 counties with a

5

variety of essential services to assist in effectively and

6

efficiently meeting the needs of this Commonwealth's residents

7

for 125 years; and

8

WHEREAS, The CCAP and all counties it represents take

9

seriously their responsibility to protect and enhance the

10

health, welfare and safety of their residents in sensible and

11

cost-effective ways; and

12

WHEREAS, The depth and breadth of the knowledge and services

13

CCAP has provided to counties has consistently benefited them in

14

meeting the unique and emerging needs of Pennsylvania's

15

population in a wide range of settings; and

16

WHEREAS, The CCAP has worked diligently to elevate the

awareness of what county government does, has worked to assure

2

counties and their employees are prepared to meet the needs of

3

residents and has provided superior representation before the

4

Federal and State governments on behalf of all counties; and

5

WHEREAS, As the voice of county government, the CCAP is

6

working to protect the interests of counties and their residents

7

while at the same time working to chart a new course for

8

resilient and cost-effective county government that can meet the

9

challenges of a diverse and changing population; and

10

WHEREAS, County government delivers many important services

11

to Pennsylvania's residents and their families, including

12

physical and mental health, housing, employment, family and

13

children and youth services, emergency management, elections and

14

justice; and

15

WHEREAS, The CCAP is the only State organization that

16

represents county government in the Commonwealth; and

17

WHEREAS, The first meeting of county leaders as an

18

association occurred in 1866, and the association's annual

19

convention is occurring August 14 - 17, 2011; therefore be it

20

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate August 15, 2011, as

21

"County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania Day" in honor

22

of the CCAP's 125th anniversary and its continuing support and

23

leadership for all counties and encourage all county officials,

24

employees and residents to participate in activities that honor

25

county government and its contributions to the community.
