| A RESOLUTION |

1 | Congratulating Sukanya Roy on winning the Scripps National |
2 | Spelling Bee. |
3 | WHEREAS, Sukanya Roy is an eighth-grade student at Abington |
4 | Heights Middle School in South Abington Township; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Sukanya had previously finished in 20th place and |
6 | 12th place in the national spelling competition; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Sukanya became Pennsylvania's seventh winner of the |
8 | national spelling bee contest, and first since 1987; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Sukanya's parents are both experienced college |
10 | professors and encourage her to work at her goals; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Sukanya is also an accomplished pianist and |
12 | violinist and fluent in Bengali; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Sukanya dazzled ESPN viewers with her poise under |
14 | pressure throughout the Washington, D.C. Competition; and |
15 | WHEREAS, After a grueling 21 words, Sukanya was the only |
16 | remaining contestant to correctly spell 'cymotrichous' to win |
17 | the title; and |

1 | WHEREAS, A 14-year-old spelling whiz, Sukanya's national |
2 | television triumph and victory in the Scripps National Spelling |
3 | Bee made all of Pennsylvania proud; therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate Sukanya Roy on winning |
5 | the Scripps National Spelling Bee. |
