A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the month of June 2011 as "Child Passenger Safety

2

Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Safe Kids USA has reported that motor vehicle

4

crashes are the leading cause of death among children from 3 to

5

14 years of age; and

6

WHEREAS, Children were found to be completely unrestrained in

7

nearly half of motor vehicle crash deaths; and

8

WHEREAS, Widespread failure of improperly installed or

9

misused child safety restraint systems also leads to death,

10

trauma or injury; and 

11

WHEREAS, Proper use of child safety seats reduces the risk of

12

death by as much as 71%; and

13

WHEREAS, The Senate encourages residents of this Commonwealth

14

to participate in car seat checkup events where child passenger

15

safety technicians can provide education to families in our

16

communities; and

WHEREAS, General Motors dealerships, hospitals, community

centers and other community organizations hold these events,

2

which are generally open to the public; and

3

WHEREAS, Safe Kids coalitions also operate approximately 500

4

permanent child passenger safety inspection stations throughout

5

the United States; and

6

WHEREAS, Inspection stations are open regularly to teach

7

parents and caregivers how to safely transport children; and

8

WHEREAS, The Senate encourages residents of this Commonwealth

9

to ensure that everyone in a vehicle is buckled up on every

10

ride; therefore be it

11

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of June 2011 as

12

"Child Passenger Safety Month" in Pennsylvania to enhance public

13

awareness of child passenger safety and promote the safety of

14

children throughout this Commonwealth.
