A RESOLUTION

Thanking the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary

2

for their service and designating May 1, 2011, as "Loyalty

3

Day" in Pennsylvania.

4

WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States enacted a law in

5

1958 to officially recognize Loyalty Day as a national holiday

6

to be celebrated as a reaffirmation of loyalty to the United

7

States and for the recognition of the heritage of American

8

freedoms; and

9

WHEREAS, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1,

10

1959, as the first official observance of Loyalty Day, which set

11

the precedence for annually celebrating this holiday; and

12

WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies

13

Auxiliary are honoring Loyalty Day with a program being held May

14

1, 2011, at the State Capitol; and

15

WHEREAS, The Senate takes great pride in recognizing those

16

organizations which, through adherence to the highest standards

of service, contribute in a meaningful way toward a better and

2

more productive society; and

3

WHEREAS, By steady adherence to the principles of fairness,

4

reliability and integrity, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its

5

Ladies Auxiliary meet the highest standards of service and have

6

become leaders in the community and a model that is worthy of

7

emulation; therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That the Senate thank the Veterans of Foreign Wars

9

and its Ladies Auxiliary for their service and join them in

10

recognizing and honoring "Loyalty Day" on May 1, 2011; and be it

11

further

12

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution, sponsored by

13

Senator Elisabeth J. Baker, be transmitted to the Veterans of

14

Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary.
