A RESOLUTION

Recognizing March 24, 2011, as "National Teach Ag Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Two hundred twenty-five agricultural educators teach

4

in nearly 175 public middle schools, high schools and post-

5

secondary programs in Pennsylvania; and

6

WHEREAS, Approximately 1 million students receive

7

agricultural education in United States public schools; and

8

WHEREAS, Approximately 8,000 of these students are members of

9

the Pennsylvania Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization;

10

and

11

WHEREAS, There is a nationwide teacher shortage in

12

agricultural education and many agricultural education programs

13

suffer from the lack of qualified teachers; and

14

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Association of Agricultural

15

Educators, on behalf of the National Council for Agricultural

16

Education is organizing "National Teach Ag Day" on March 24,

2011, as one component of the National Teach Ag Campaign; and

2

WHEREAS, The goal of "National Teach Ag Day" is to have every

3

agricultural educator in America teach a lesson to encourage

4

their students to consider a career in agricultural education;

5

and

6

WHEREAS, Agricultural educators contribute to a strong and

7

effective education in public schools; and

8

WHEREAS, A student's growth and future are positively

9

impacted by the dedication and quality teaching of agricultural

10

educators; and

11

WHEREAS, March 24, 2011, is being observed across the United

12

States as "National Teach Ag Day"; therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 24, 2011, as

14

"National Teach Ag Day" in Pennsylvania.
