| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the 40th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Steelers' |
2 | Immaculate Reception. |
3 | WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Steelers are beloved throughout |
4 | Pittsburgh, this Commonwealth and the world; and |
5 | WHEREAS, On December 23, 1972, the Steelers played the |
6 | Oakland Raiders in an American Football Conference Divisional |
7 | Playoff Game; and |
8 | WHEREAS, With the Steelers down by a score of 7-6 and with 22 |
9 | seconds left in the game, Quarterback Terry Bradshaw threw the |
10 | ball downfield; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Franco Harris, in miraculous fashion, caught the |
12 | ball off his shoes and ran down the field 42 yards to the end |
13 | zone, giving the Steelers a 12-7 lead; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Season ticket holders Sharon Levosky and Michael Ord |
15 | called Steelers' announcer Myron Cope during his postgame show |
16 | and suggested the catch be called the "Immaculate Reception"; |
17 | and |
18 | WHEREAS, Myron Cope called the catch the "Immaculate |

1 | Reception" on the air, a name that is still used; and |
2 | WHEREAS, The Immaculate Reception gave the Steelers the |
3 | victory and their first ever win in a playoff game; and |
4 | WHEREAS, This victory reversed four decades of postseason |
5 | losses and started a winning streak that saw the Steelers win |
6 | four Super Bowls by the end of the decade with two more to |
7 | follow in recent years; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The Steelers are celebrating the 40th anniversary of |
9 | the Immaculate Reception this year; therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
11 | 40th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Immaculate |
12 | Reception. |
