| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating the week of October 21 through 27, 2012, as "Pro |
2 | Bono Week" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at |
4 | low or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to more |
5 | than 100,000 low-income clients each year, including 10,000 |
6 | mortgage foreclosure cases and 12,000 domestic violence cases; |
7 | and |
8 | WHEREAS, The fourth annual National Pro Bono Week will be |
9 | celebrated at the end of October 2012; and |
10 | WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week is an opportunity to |
11 | highlight the differences attorneys make in their communities, |
12 | to recruit and train more pro bono volunteers and to acknowledge |
13 | the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private |
14 | bar's most successful pro bono efforts; and |
15 | WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association is joining with the |
16 | American Bar Association to sponsor this October's annual |
17 | National Pro Bono Week celebrations; and |
18 | WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week provides numerous |

1 | opportunities to highlight the good work Pennsylvania attorneys |
2 | do for the most needy among us; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating National Pro |
4 | Bono Week with what have become annual events at many sites |
5 | across this Commonwealth, from already scheduled events such as |
6 | the Berks County Pro Bono Celebration on October 23, 2012, in |
7 | Reading and the Pennsylvania Bar Association's seventh Annual |
8 | Diversity Summit on October 26, 2012, to many more events still |
9 | in the planning; therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the |
11 | week of October 21 through 27, 2012, as "Pro Bono Week" in |
12 | Pennsylvania. |
