A RESOLUTION

Honoring the 100th anniversary of West Philadelphia High School

2

in the City of Philadelphia.

3

WHEREAS, West Philadelphia High School, located in

4

Philadelphia, was originally completed in 1912 and housed both a

5

boys' school and a girls' school; and

6

WHEREAS, Within two decades of the opening of the high

7

school, the separate boys' and girls' schools were combined into

8

one; and

9

WHEREAS, West Philadelphia High School is now home to

10

multiple programs, including an Academy of Applied Automotive

11

and Mechanical Science, which has made headlines for its success

12

in the Tour de Sol competition by creating top-notch hybrid and

13

battery-powered cars; and

14

WHEREAS, The high school has an enrollment of more than 800

15

students and is a part of the School District of Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, For the past 100 years, West Philadelphia High

3

School has been an essential educational institution servicing

4

Philadelphia by cultivating amazing students into adults that

5

have significantly contributed to society in exceptional ways;

6

therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the 100th

8

anniversary of West Philadelphia High School; and be it further

9

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to West

10

Philadelphia High School, 4901 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA

11

19139.
