A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2012 as "Crime Prevention

2

Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council was founded in

4

1982 to manage the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign

5

and McGruff the Crime Dog and to administer the Crime Prevention

6

Coalition of America; and

7

WHEREAS, The modern mission of the National Crime Prevention

8

Council is to help people keep themselves, their families and

9

their communities safe from crime through various programs,

10

publications and public service announcements; and

11

WHEREAS, Since 1984, the National Crime Prevention Council

12

has annually designated the month of October as Crime Prevention

13

Month, the official month for recognizing and celebrating the

14

practice of crime prevention; and

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council partners with

2

prevention organizations, justice advocates and other

3

professionals to build and sustain relationships with citizens

4

and public officials to promote a national crime prevention

5

agenda that will reduce the incidence of crimes, while helping

6

communities identify and address the underlying causes of

7

crimes; and

8

WHEREAS, Crime Prevention Month brings together government

9

agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses and youth

10

organizations in a joint effort to promote awareness of

11

important issues such as victimization, volunteerism and the

12

creation of healthier, safer communities; therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

14

month of October 2012 as "Crime Prevention Month" in

15

Pennsylvania.
