A RESOLUTION

Honoring Mr. Andrew J. Sordoni III for his outstanding and

2

dedicated service to society, including his 40 years of

3

service as a member of the board of directors of the

4

Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

5

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrew J. Sordoni III is a lifelong resident of

6

Luzerne County and has been active in business and civic and

7

political affairs in this Commonwealth; and

8

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni has served as an officer of Sordoni

9

Construction Services for more than 30 years; and

10

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni has held executive responsibilities in

11

firms engaged in manufacturing, hotel management and real estate

12

development; and

13

WHEREAS, From 1979 to 1993, Mr. Sordoni was a leader of the

14

C-TEC Corporation, and during that time the corporation became

15

one of America's best known diversified telecommunications

16

companies; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni has also served as an independent

2

director of many businesses, including the Harsco Corporation

3

where he serves as director; and

4

WHEREAS, In 1994, Mr. Sordoni served as chairman of the

5

transition team for the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce; and

6

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni served as a key leader in the formation

7

of a consortium of providers which became the NPW Medical

8

Center, a part of the Geisinger system, where he serves as a

9

trustee; and

10

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni is also a philanthropist who has

11

dedicated much of his time and resources to charitable causes;

12

and

13

WHEREAS, Since 1974, Mr. Sordoni has headed the Sordoni

14

Foundation, Inc., which is devoted to philanthropy in arts and

15

culture, education, health care, social services and nature and

16

the environment; and 

17

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni was elected to the board of directors of

18

the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry in 1972, has

19

served on virtually all of its standing committees and has

20

served as chairman of several of its ad hoc committees,

21

including Keep Pennsylvanians Working, the Long-range Planning

22

Committee and the Capital Campaign; and

23

WHEREAS, During his 40 years of service to the chamber, he

24

served as chairman from 1982 to 1984; and

25

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni will retire from the chamber at the end

26

of this year as the longest serving member in history; and

27

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni enjoys collecting art and specializes in

28

American art, particularly illustration and the world of comics

29

and adventure; and

30

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni also produces jazz recordings for his

own company, CHIAROSCURO Records; and

2

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni is married to Dr. Susan Sordoni and

3

together the couple have five children and one grandchild; and

4

WHEREAS, For his outstanding contributions to society, Mr.

5

Sordoni has been granted honorary doctoral degrees from Kings

6

College, Luzerne County Community College and Wilkes University;

7

and

8

WHEREAS, Mr. Sordoni has also received numerous awards,

9

including the Grand Prix du Disque de Jazz from France and the

10

Medal of the Westmoreland Museum of Art; and

11

WHEREAS, It is fitting to recognize the outstanding

12

contributions that Mr. Sordoni has made to society; therefore be

13

it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Mr. Andrew

15

J. Sordoni III for his outstanding and dedicated service to

16

society, including his 40 years of service as a member of the

17

board of directors of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and

18

Industry.
