A RESOLUTION

Memorializing the United States Department of Transportation to

2

issue a Transportation Investment Generating Economic

3

Recovery (TIGER) grant to the Borough of Ellwood City.

4

WHEREAS, The Borough of Ellwood City has timely submitted a

5

TIGER grant application to the United States Department of

6

Transportation for the Borough's Economic Development Project

7

Phase II; and

8

WHEREAS, This project represents the second part of a multi-

9

phased project in the Central Business District along the public

10

right-of-way of 5th Street from Crescent Avenue to Spring

11

Avenue; and

12

WHEREAS, The Ellwood City Downtown Economic Development

13

Project Phase II will remove the deteriorated street corridor

14

and infrastructure systems and construct comprehensive

15

transportation infrastructure; and

16

WHEREAS, The Ellwood City Downtown Economic Development

17

Project Phase II will contribute to the economic competitiveness

18

of the region by providing adequate infrastructure improvements

that will retain existing jobs while attracting new businesses

2

to create new jobs; and

3

WHEREAS, An additional major economic thrust of the project

4

is to create a designation location for the residents and

5

tourists who use the Beaver and Connoquenessing Rivers and River

6

Trail; and

7

WHEREAS, The project will also reduce travel times, improve

8

vehicular and pedestrian safety and connect the downtown with

9

the Ellwood City High School; and

10

WHEREAS, The revitalized downtown area will provide a

11

historic Main Street setting within easy driving distance of

12

one-half hour to attract tourists to frequent Ellwood City's

13

downtown restaurants, specialty shops, farmers market, and

14

community plaza; and

15

WHEREAS, The project area will allow downtown to become the

16

community living room, enhancing both economic development and

17

quality of life; therefore be it

18

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the

19

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the United States

20

Department of Transportation to issue a Transportation

21

Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant to the

22

Borough of Ellwood City; and be it further

23

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

24

the presiding officers of each house of Congress, each member of

25

Congress from Pennsylvania and the United States Secretary of

26

Transportation.
