A RESOLUTION

Designating May 11, 2012, as "Military Spouse Appreciation Day"

2

in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, In 1969, the Military Wives association was formed

4

by a small group of wives and widows who gathered to voice their

5

concerns about inadequate support for military families who had

6

lost loved ones; and

7

WHEREAS, In 1984, "Military Spouse Appreciation Day" was

8

first celebrated when President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the

9

observance to honor the contributions of military spouses; and

10

WHEREAS, Military spouses embody the courage, sense of duty

11

and love of country that inspire every American; and

12

WHEREAS, Military spouses make tremendous sacrifices,

13

including enduring long separations, assuming household

14

responsibilities and caring for children while their loved ones

15

are away; and

16

WHEREAS, Military spouses act with patience, selflessness and

17

compassion while serving as the front line of this country's

conscience to ensure the appropriate care of soldiers returning

2

from duty with serious conditions, including traumatic brain

3

injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder; and

4

WHEREAS, Many military spouses are also volunteers in their

5

communities who serve the needs of other military families; and

6

WHEREAS, The nation benefits from the sacrifices of military

7

families, and is inspired by their courage, strength and

8

leadership; and

9

WHEREAS, On "Military Spouses Appreciation Day" and

10

throughout the year, we honor the commitment military spouses

11

have made to their loved ones, our country and freedom;

12

therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 11,

14

2012, as "Military Spouse Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania.
