A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of May 6 through 13, 2012, as "Nurses Week"

2

in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA),

4

which includes 31 organizational affiliates, is the largest

5

professional nursing association in this Commonwealth; and

6

WHEREAS, Established in 1903, the PSNA has advanced the

7

identity, integrity and the continuity of the profession of

8

nursing in this Commonwealth for more than 109 years; and

9

WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week," with the theme "Nurses:

10

Advocating, Leading, Caring," begins May 6 and ends May 13,

2012, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday; and

2

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has nearly 213,000 registered nurses,

3

including about 57,000 licensed practical nurses and 12,000

4

advanced practice nurses; and

5

WHEREAS, The PSNA is working diligently to chart a new course

6

for a healthy Commonwealth that relies on increasing the

7

delivery of primary and preventive health care, coupled with a

8

strong focus on nursing care; and

9

WHEREAS, Nursing care provided by the registered nurses of

10

this Commonwealth is a paramount component to Pennsylvania's

11

health care delivery system; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

13

week of May 6 through 13, 2012, as "Nurses Week" in

14

Pennsylvania; and be it further

15

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join the

16

Pennsylvania State Nurses Association and other nursing

17

organizations in recognizing the selfless service of

18

Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall importance of quality

19

nursing care.
