A RESOLUTION

Honoring the Pennsylvania 4-H on its 100th anniversary.

2

WHEREAS, In 1912, Charles G. McBride held the first

3

Pennsylvania 4-H meeting in Mercer County; and

4

WHEREAS, The first project was developed in cooperation with

5

the Grange to organize a corn growing contest; and

6

WHEREAS, Today, through the Penn State Cooperative Extension

7

and The Pennsylvania State University's outreach mission, 4-H

8

programming is offered in all 67 counties, reaching out to both

9

boys and girls ages 5 through 18 across this Commonwealth; and

10

WHEREAS, 4-H reaches youths in urban, suburban and rural

11

communities; and

WHEREAS, More than 200,000 Pennsylvania youths are served

2

through traditional 4-H clubs, school enrichment, after-school

3

programs and camps; and

4

WHEREAS, 4-H focuses on science education, with an emphasis

5

on agricultural literacy, to develop life and career skills;

6

therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate

8

Pennsylvania 4-H on celebrating the 100th anniversary of its

9

founding and commend the organization for its many contributions

10

to the youth of this Commonwealth; and be it further

11

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to Christy

12

Bartley, Program Leader, 4-H Youth Development, Penn State

13

Extension, 116 Ferguson Building, University Park, PA 16802.
