A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the 225th anniversary of the signing of the

2

Constitution of the United States.

WHEREAS, On September 17, 1787, 42 of the 55 delegates to the

4

Constitutional Convention held their final meeting, with only

5

one item of business occupying the agenda that day, to sign the

6

Constitution of the United States; and

7

WHEREAS, After being signed in September of 1787, Congress

8

sent printed copies of the Constitution of the United States to

9

the state legislatures for ratification; and

10

WHEREAS, By June 21, 1788, nine states had approved the

11

Constitution of the United States, finally forming "a more

12

perfect Union"; and

WHEREAS, In the opinion of many, the Constitution of the

2

United States, signed in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787,

3

represents the greatest expression of statesmanship and

4

compromise ever written; and

5

WHEREAS, This year marks the 225th anniversary of the signing

6

of the Constitution of the United States; therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the

8

225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the

9

United States.
