| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Memorializing the President of the United States and Congress to |
2 | reconsider closing the 911th Airlift Wing. |
3 | WHEREAS, As the Pentagon, in response to President Obama's |
4 | budget, is beginning to make long-term budget cuts, these |
5 | decisions must be made in conjunction with national security |
6 | implications, as well as the effect on our local economies; and |
7 | WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has a long history of contributing |
8 | heavily to overall United States reserve military strength; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Closing the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon, |
10 | Pennsylvania, will diminish our country's ability to meet |
11 | potential threats to our national and domestic security; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Closing this reserve base is continuing a trend of |
13 | cuts to the reserve components of the Pennsylvania Air National |
14 | Guard, which is extremely beneficial in controlling the skies |
15 | above hostile environments; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The surrounding community of Moon will have to deal |
2 | with the negative economic consequences of this closure, with |
3 | more than $100 million being removed from the local economy; |
4 | therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the |
6 | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania continue to support the components |
7 | of the United States Air Force Reserve in this Commonwealth, as |
8 | well as all other armed forces personnel to ensure that we have |
9 | the ability to contribute significantly to national defense; and |
10 | be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the |
12 | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania strongly encourage the President of |
13 | the United States and Congress to reconsider the closure of the |
14 | 911th Airlift Wing in Moon, Pennsylvania; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the | <-- |
16 | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania further encourage the President of |
17 | the United States and Congress to pass HR 3911 to prohibit the |
18 | permanent relocation of the C-130 aircraft currently assigned to |
19 | the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon, Pennsylvania; and be it further |
20 | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to |
21 | the President of the United States and the presiding officers of |
22 | each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from |
23 | Pennsylvania. |
