A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of May 20 through 26, 2012, as "Emergency

2

Medical Services Week" and May 23, 2012, as "Emergency

3

Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day" in Pennsylvania.

4

WHEREAS, Emergency medical services are a vital public

5

service; and

6

WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams are

7

ready to provide lifesaving care 24 hours a day, seven days a

8

week, to those in need; and

9

WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically

10

improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience

11

sudden illness or injury; and

12

WHEREAS, The emergency medical services system consists of

13

emergency physicians, emergency nurses, rescue personnel,

14

emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, prehospital

nurses, air medical personnel, emergency responders, first

2

responders, ambulance attendants, emergency vehicle operators,

3

firefighters, police officers, educators, dispatchers,

4

administrators and others; and

5

WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams,

6

whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of

7

specialized training and continuing education to enhance their

8

lifesaving skills; and

9

WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the value and the

10

accomplishments of emergency medical services providers who, by

11

their service, are everyday heroes; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

13

week of May 20 through 26, 2012, as "Emergency Medical Services

14

Week" and May 23, 2012, as "Emergency Medical Services for

15

Children (EMSC) Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

16

RESOLVED, That with the theme, "EMS: More Than A Job, A

17

Calling," all communities are encouraged to observe this week

18

with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
