A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of April 2012 as "Parental Alienation

2

Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Parental Alienation is the psychological term used

4

to denote the unacceptable manipulative process used by a parent

5

to alienate a child from the other parent by encouraging the

6

child to hate that parent; and

7

WHEREAS, This process is most often used in the course of the

8

parents' divorce; and

9

WHEREAS, While divorce is the most common situation when

10

Parental Alienation is used, it also has been known to happen

11

during the course of unhappy marriages that do not end in

12

divorce, as one parent seeks the exclusive companionship and

13

alliance of the children or of a particular child in the family;

14

and

15

WHEREAS, Parental Alienation is a form of child abuse because

it denies a child, through cruel manipulation, a loving and

2

supportive relationship with both parents; and

3

WHEREAS, The unhappiness bred by Parental Alienation has been

4

known to lead to child kidnapping, murder and suicide, and such

5

incidents have been reported notoriously on television and in

6

newspapers; and

7

WHEREAS, Awareness of Parental Alienation and its negative

8

consequences will help to lessen its occurrence; therefore be it

9

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

10

month of April 2012 as "Parental Alienation Awareness Month" in

11

Pennsylvania.
