A RESOLUTION

Supporting the efforts of Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund to

2

construct an underground learning facility at the Vietnam

3

Veterans Memorial to inform future generations of the honor

4

and sacrifices made by those who served their country.

5

WHEREAS, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, also known as The

6

Wall, is the most visited memorial in our nation's capital; and

7

WHEREAS, Engraved upon The Wall are the names of 58,272

8

heroes, more than 3,100 from this Commonwealth, who valiantly

9

gave their lives in service to our country during the Vietnam

10

Conflict; and

11

WHEREAS, The dedication of The Wall nearly 30 years ago began

12

the process of remembrance, healing and honoring those who

13

served and died in the longest war in United States history; and

14

WHEREAS, Both Houses of the United States Congress have

unanimously authorized the building of a new underground

2

education center across from The Wall; and

3

WHEREAS, The Education Center at The Wall will tell the

4

stories behind the names on The Wall and draw attention to the

5

sacrifices made by those who defend our freedom; and

6

WHEREAS, The Education Center at The Wall will display the

7

images of the 58,272 casualties memorialized on The Wall, images

8

of others who served in the Vietnam Conflict and in other wars,

9

as well as an artifacts collection of more than 200,000 items

10

left at The Wall and related educational material onsite and

11

online; and

12

WHEREAS, The Education Center at The Wall will share and

13

celebrate core values of duty, loyalty, respect, service, honor,

14

courage and integrity; and

15

WHEREAS, The stories and values that will be showcased in the

16

Education Center at The Wall must be preserved and shared with

17

future generations; therefore be it

18

RESOLVED, That the Education Center at The Wall be a valuable

19

adjunct to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that gives life and

20

meaning to the names on The Wall for visitors from across the

21

nation and around the world; and be it further

22

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives wholeheartedly

23

endorse the goals of the Education Center at The Wall and

24

support this worthy project to commemorate the sacrifices of

25

those who serve, those who fall and those who wait for them at

26

home.
