| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the employees of SPIN, Inc., during "National Direct |
2 | Support Professionals Recognition Week" beginning September |
3 | 11, 2011. |
4 | WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, Special People in the |
5 | Northeast, Inc., known as SPIN, Inc., has provided programs and |
6 | services enabling children and adults to live full, productive |
7 | lives as active members of their community, volunteering and |
8 | participating in numerous events and activities; and |
9 | WHEREAS, SPIN, Inc., believes that each person has unique |
10 | strengths and seeks opportunities to share them with others in |
11 | pursuit of an inclusive, meaningful life; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The employees and volunteers of SPIN, Inc., support |
13 | its mission to establish and provide community resources, |
14 | services and initiatives in support of people with mental, |
15 | physical or sensory impairment, their families as well as others |
16 | who provide assistance so that they may exercise responsibly |
17 | their choice, preference and right, without limitation, to a |
18 | fully integrated life as citizens of Pennsylvania; and |

1 | WHEREAS, SPIN, Inc., has been recognized by international, |
2 | national and local entities as a world class organization, |
3 | renowned for its work in the use of technology, training and |
4 | work force development, education, early childhood centers and |
5 | other support services; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Much of SPIN, Inc.'s, success can be attributed to |
7 | the hard work of its direct support professionals whose role is |
8 | vital in providing assistance to individuals with disabilities, |
9 | enabling them to live in their own communities; and |
10 | WHEREAS, It is critical that the direct support professional |
11 | build a close, trusted relationship with an individual with |
12 | disabilities; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Their role is key in helping individuals with their |
14 | personal needs on a daily basis as well as providing a broad |
15 | range of support to help keep them connected to their families |
16 | and living in their communities instead of being housed in |
17 | institutions; and |
18 | WHEREAS, The vast majority of direct support professionals |
19 | work in home and community-based settings, a trend that is |
20 | expected to increase over the next decade; and |
21 | WHEREAS, There is a critical and growing shortage of direct |
22 | support professionals in every community throughout the United |
23 | States that, research demonstrates, adversely affects the |
24 | quality of support to individuals with disabilities; therefore |
25 | be it |
26 | Resolved, That the House of Representatives recognize and |
27 | honor the work of the direct support professionals of SPIN, |
28 | Inc., during "National Direct Support Professionals Recognition |
29 | Week" beginning September 11, 2011, for their dedication and |
30 | vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with |
