A RESOLUTION

Honoring Master Sergeant Kenneth B. Elwell, of Bucks County, who

2

was killed in Afghanistan on July 17, 2011.

3

WHEREAS, Kenneth B. Elwell, 33, a native of Bucks County,

4

graduated from Council Rock High School in 1997; and

5

WHEREAS, He was an accomplished varsity soccer player since

6

ninth grade; and

7

WHEREAS, He also was a member of the Ukrainian Nationals Team

8

and the Fox Chase and Northampton soccer clubs; and

9

WHEREAS, He enlisted in the Army in October 1997; and

10

WHEREAS, He was stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, with

11

the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade

Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; and

2

WHEREAS, He served one tour of duty in Bosnia, one tour in

3

South Korea, two tours in Iraq and a previous tour in

4

Afghanistan; and

5

WHEREAS, Sgt. Elwell was deployed to Afghanistan again in May

6

2011; and

7

WHEREAS, On July 17, 2011, Sgt. Elwell was killed by a

8

roadside bomb while on patrol in Afghanistan's Kandahar

9

Province; and

10

WHEREAS, Also killed was Private 1st Class Tyler M.

11

Springmann, and seven other soldiers were wounded in the blast;

12

and

13

WHEREAS, Sgt. Elwell was posthumously promoted to Master

14

Sergeant; and

15

WHEREAS, Sgt. Elwell is survived by his wife of eight years,

16

Kristin; his son Nicholas, 4; daughter Elise, 6; and his mother,

17

Janice; and

18

WHEREAS, Sgt. Elwell died in the courageous and valorous

19

service of his grateful nation and has earned the lasting

20

admiration and honor of its citizens; therefore be it

21

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

22

Master Sergeant Kenneth B. Elwell and extend condolences to his

23

family and friends.
