A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of October 16 through 22, 2011, as

2

"Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness

3

Week" in Pennsylvania.

4

WHEREAS, At least four million children, or 5% of the

5

pediatric population, and at least nine million adults, or 4% of

6

the adult population, in the United States have Attention

7

Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); and

8

WHEREAS, Research shows that ADHD is the result of an

9

imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain, and the primary

10

symptoms of ADHD are inattention, impulsiveness and

11

hyperactivity; and

12

WHEREAS, ADHD has been recognized as a legitimate diagnosis

13

of neurological disorder by the American Medical Association,

14

American Academy of Pediatrics, the United States Department of

15

Education, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the

16

National Institute of Mental Health, the American Psychiatric

Psychiatry; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

4

week of October 16 through 22, 2011, as "Attention Deficit

5

Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
