A RESOLUTION

Designating Tuesday, October 4, 2011, as "Music Education

2

Advocacy Day" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, School-based music education is important and

4

beneficial for students of all ages; and

5

WHEREAS, Music education programs enhance intellectual

6

development and enrich the academic environment for students of

7

all ages; and

8

WHEREAS, Music education provides students with the

9

opportunity to express their creativity and to develop skills

10

that will benefit them throughout the rest of their lives; and

11

WHEREAS, The skills gained through music instruction,

12

including discipline and the ability to analyze, solve problems,

13

communicate and work cooperatively, are vital for success in the

21st-century workplace; and

2

WHEREAS, Many students have limited access to music

3

education, which places them at a disadvantage compared to their

4

peers; and

5

WHEREAS, Every student in this Commonwealth should have an

6

opportunity to reap the benefits of music education; and

7

WHEREAS, Music educators in this Commonwealth are committed

8

to maintaining and improving school music programs for all

9

students regardless of their backgrounds or abilities; and

10

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association seeks

11

not only to identify music as a core subject, but also to

12

recognize music education as a mandatory component of the public

13

education curriculum in this Commonwealth; and

14

WHEREAS, "Music Education Advocacy Day" will allow music

15

teachers, concerned citizens and other advocates for music

16

education to create an even greater presence for music education

17

advocacy efforts and garner greater support for music education

18

in our public schools; therefore be it

19

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate

20

Tuesday, October 4, 2011, as "Music Education Advocacy Day" in

21

Pennsylvania.
