A RESOLUTION

Honoring the promotion of Pennsylvania native Major General

2

Rhett A. Hernandez to the rank of lieutenant general in the

3

United States Army.

4

WHEREAS, By vote of the United States Senate, the

5

Presidential nomination of Pennsylvania native Major General

6

Rhett A. Hernandez to the rank of lieutenant general was

7

confirmed on March 2, 2011; and

8

WHEREAS, At a promotion ceremony on March 25, 2011, at Fort

9

Belvoir, VA, Lt. Gen. Hernandez received his third star from his

10

wife, Pat, and Gen. James D. Thurman, commanding general, United

11

States Forces Command; and

12

WHEREAS, Less than 10% of major generals in the United States

13

Army are promoted to lieutenant general; and

14

WHEREAS, Lt. Gen. Hernandez, a native of Palmerton, graduated

from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, on

2

June 2, 1976, and has served in numerous commands during his 34

3

years of service; and

4

WHEREAS, Lt. Gen. Hernandez assumed command of the United

5

States Army Cyber Command last October 1 and previously

6

commanded the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery and the

7

Division Artillery, 4th Infantry Division located at Fort Hood,

8

TX, was assistant division commander, 1st Armored Division,

9

United States Army Europe and 7th Army, Operation Iraqi Freedom

10

and was commanding general of the United States Army Human

11

Resources Command, Alexandria, VA, where he also served as a

12

strategic planner with the Office of Personnel Management System

13

Task Force; and

14

WHEREAS, Lt. Gen. Hernandez was Chief of Operations Division

15

for the Joint Staff in Washington DC and the director of the

16

Office of Personnel Management Directorate and the Chief of the

17

United States Military Training Mission in Saudi Arabia; and

18

WHEREAS, Lt. Gen. Hernandez's decorations include the Army

19

Distinguished Service Medal with one Oak Leaf, Defense Superior

20

Service Medal with one Oak Leaf, Legion of Merit with one Oak

21

Leaf, Bronze Star Medal meritorious, Service Medal with four Oak

22

Leaves, Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaves, Army

23

Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf, Combat Action Badge, Joint

24

Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge and Army Staff

25

Identification Badge, exemplifying a career of outstanding

26

service to our nation and thereby bestowing honor on this

27

Commonwealth; therefore be it

28

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the

29

promotion of Pennsylvania native Major General Rhett A.

30

Hernandez to the rank of lieutenant general in the United States
