A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Pennsylvania Dental Association for its

2

efforts to improve access to dental care.

3

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Dental Association fosters

4

volunteerism and encourages its more than 5,500 members to

5

provide direct patient care and engage with others in their

6

communities to improve access to dental care for all

7

Pennsylvanians; and

8

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Dental Association recognizes that

9

this Commonwealth has one of the greatest populations of senior

10

citizens in the nation and that many of them have unmet dental

11

needs; and

12

WHEREAS, Many Pennsylvanians who are disabled, elderly or

13

medically at risk suffer from seriously neglected dental

problems because they cannot afford treatment; and

2

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Dental Association recognizes that

3

prevention and education is key to developing good oral hygiene

4

habits that prevent the need for more costly treatment for

5

patients and taxpayers; and

6

WHEREAS, Members of the Pennsylvania Dental Association

7

continue to donate care to the aged, disabled and medically

8

compromised through the Donated Dental Services program,

9

providing $8,598,852 in free services to more than 4,000

10

vulnerable patients since 1996; and

11

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is one of 39 states that, in 2010

12

alone, collectively generated $22.7 million in donated care for

13

more than 7,300 patients enrolled in the Donated Dental Services

14

program; and

15

WHEREAS, More than 800 dentists provide discounted services

16

to hundreds of senior citizens in need through the Pennsylvania

17

Dental Association's Senior Dental Care Program, enabling many

18

senior citizens to obtain affordable dental care and helping

19

them to enjoy good health and well-being; therefore be it

20

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the

21

Pennsylvania Dental Association for its efforts to improve

22

access to dental care and extend a heartfelt thank you to

23

thousands of volunteer dentists for providing quality dental

24

care to Pennsylvania's senior citizens.
