INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 3, 2011  

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the week of May 1 through 7, 2011, as "National

Charter Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The 135 charter schools in this Commonwealth and

their nearly 80,000 students are leading an educational

revolution, bringing new perspectives and innovative ideas to

education; and

WHEREAS, Charter schools are exciting and innovative schools

that are changing and improving educational opportunities in

this Commonwealth and across the nation by giving parents more

choices in their children's education; and

WHEREAS, Communities oversee charter public schools, thereby

empowering parents, teachers and communities to custom-design

unique educational programs to increase student achievement and

meet the specific needs of students; and

WHEREAS, Charter public schools encourage competition and are

accountable to the localities that establish them in order to

foster innovation and serve as models for other public schools;

therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the

week of May 1 through 7, 2011, as "National Charter Schools

Week" in Pennsylvania in proud celebration of these innovative

schools and urge parents, teachers, students and communities to

support the charter public schools in this Commonwealth.
