INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 12, 2011  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of April 10 through 16, 2011, as "Volunteer

Appreciation Week" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Volunteerism strengthens this Commonwealth's

communities, improves its vital social concerns and enhances the

overall quality of life for all its citizens, including

children, seniors, persons with disabilities and people who are

impoverished, homeless, physically or mentally ill or otherwise

in need of assistance; and 

WHEREAS, Volunteering can provide life-changing experiences

and bring about positive change such as increased self-

confidence, self-satisfaction, physical well-being and

opportunities to make friends and to gain new skills; and

WHEREAS, Volunteers affect positive change through large and

small volunteer actions and have the power to make a difference;

and

WHEREAS, Volunteers are a vital component of this

Commonwealth's future and its citizens' combined efforts ensure

a true commitment of service to others; and

WHEREAS, The practice of regularly volunteering time to

community service projects should be promoted throughout

Pennsylvania, as it enriches the lives of both those who receive

services and those who volunteer; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

week of April 10 through 16, 2011, as "Volunteer Appreciation

Week" in Pennsylvania.
