A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Wildlife Conservation Officer David L.

2

Grove, who gave his life in service to the Commonwealth on

3

November 11, 2010.

4

WHEREAS, David L. Grove was born on March 5, 1979, in

5

Chambersburg, Franklin County, attended Grace Academy in

6

Hagerstown and earned his bachelor's degree in Wildlife Sciences

7

from The Pennsylvania State University in 2004; and

8

WHEREAS, Mr. Grove began his formal employment with the

9

Pennsylvania Game Commission after completing training and

10

testing at the Ross Leffler School of Conservation in 2008; and

11

WHEREAS, His success in becoming a Wildlife Conservation

12

Officer (WCO) fulfilled a long-held and deep conviction that he

13

would dedicate his professional life to the unique and important

14

work of the Pennsylvania Game Commission; and 

15

WHEREAS, WCO Grove was the proud son of Dana S. and Lucy R.

16

Grove and learned the lessons of a lifetime secure in the midst

17

of a strong community and lasting family ties; and

18

WHEREAS, WCO Grove took from his upbringing an admirable call

to public service and, in work for the Pennsylvania Game

2

Commission, found a productive and pleasing way to combine his

3

generous spirit with his deep interest and vast knowledge of the

4

outdoors and animal species of this Commonwealth; and

5

WHEREAS, On November 11, 2010, WCO Grove had his life

6

tragically cut short by an assailant he apprehended while

7

faithfully fulfilling his duties; and

8

WHEREAS, He faced single-handedly a dangerous but common

9

circumstance for officers of the Pennsylvania Game Commission

10

and stopped illegal shooting and made an arrest in a remote part

11

of Adams County; and

12

WHEREAS, WCO Grove's heroism, after suffering a fatal wound,

13

even to the taking of his last breath, exemplifies the very best

14

attributes of public law enforcement everywhere; and

15

WHEREAS, WCO Grove's inspirational actions leave behind for

16

family, friends and colleagues a legacy of excellence, self-

17

sacrifice and duty-bound service to Pennsylvania; therefore be

18

it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

20

Wildlife Conservation Officer David L. Grove, who gave his life

21

in service to the Commonwealth on November 11, 2010.
