| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring Jim Reed for his significant contributions to the City |
2 | of Philadelphia and the surrounding community. |
3 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and was |
4 | educated in Savannah and the Philadelphia school systems; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Institute |
6 | of Technology and Spring Garden College and attended Temple |
7 | University; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed was a mathematics instructor in the |
9 | Philadelphia public school system at Murrell Dobbins Area |
10 | Vocational Technical High School and Thomas A. Edison High |
11 | School, and he also taught mathematics at Philadelphia OIC and |
12 | Temple University; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed is an external affairs director for Verizon |
14 | Pennsylvania, Inc., and, in this position, he is responsible for |
15 | representing Verizon Pennsylvania, Inc., in Philadelphia; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed has more than 45 years of experience in all |

1 | facets of telecommunications; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed began his career with AT&T and, following a |
3 | series of assignments, he transferred to Bell of Pennsylvania; |
4 | and |
5 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed moved to Verizon's External Affairs |
6 | Department as community relations director and assumed his |
7 | current position in 1993; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed's community involvement includes a wide |
9 | range of interests and activities; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed chairs the Mayor's Commission on Services |
11 | to the Aging, and he is an active board member of the Urban |
12 | Affairs Coalition, the West Philadelphia Partnership, the Korean |
13 | Community Center, the Citizens Crime Commission, The Men of the |
14 | 644th Engineer Battalion "C" and many others; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed is an active member of Tinley Temple Church |
16 | where he serves as an usher, a member of the Methodist Men and |
17 | also a board member of the Charles A. Tinley Community |
18 | Development Corporation; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Jim Reed has been honored by countless |
20 | organizations, including the Philadelphia OIC, the Philadelphia |
21 | Chinatown Development Corporation, the Asian American Women's |
22 | Coalition, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Berean Institute, |
23 | Operation PUSH, Teenagers In Charge, Concerned Black Men, the |
24 | City of Philadelphia, Frontiers International, the Ducky Birts |
25 | Foundation, the Haddington Multi-Service Center for Older |
26 | Adults, Inc., Grands As Parents, Inc. and many others; and |
27 | WHEREAS, A resident of Wynnefield in West Philadelphia, Jim |
28 | Reed is a concerned community advocate; therefore be it |
29 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and extend |
30 | its appreciation to Jim Reed for his significant contributions |
