INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JANUARY 24, 2011  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Declaring the week of January 30 through February 5, 2011, as

2

"Catholic Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are

4

celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 30 through

5

February 5, 2011; and

6

WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools, educating

7

160,874 students annually, save State and local taxpayers more

8

than $1 billion each year; and

9

WHEREAS, The theme for "Catholic Schools Week" this year is

10

"A+ for Pennsylvania Catholic Schools"; and

11

WHEREAS, The theme focuses on the celebration of service by

12

volunteering in the community or parishes; and

13

WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong

foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and

2

leadership skills; and

3

WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people with the

4

solid values and academic skills needed in becoming responsible

5

citizens of this Commonwealth and this nation, have a dropout

6

rate of less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education

7

enrollment rate of 90%; therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week

9

of January 30 through February 5, 2011, as "Catholic Schools

10

Week" in Pennsylvania and express congratulations and

11

appreciation to Catholic elementary and secondary schools across

12

this Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in

13

2011.
