AN ACT

  

1

Designating the bridge on that portion of State Route 116 (York

2

Road) over a tributary to Codorus Creek in North Codorus

3

Township, York County, as the Corporal Luke S. Runyan and

4

Officer David Tome Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge.

5

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

6

hereby enacts as follows:

7

Section 1.  Corporal Luke S. Runyan and Officer David Tome

8

Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge.

9

(a)  Declaration of policy.--The General Assembly finds and 

10

declares as follows:

11

(1)  Corporal Luke S. Runyan graduated from Spring Grove

12

Area High School, where he was on the tennis and swimming

13

teams.

14

(2)  Cpl. Runyan enlisted in the Army during his senior

15

year of high school. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion,

23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd

2

Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.

(3)  Cpl. Runyan was deployed to Iraq, where he died

4

February 17, 2008, when enemy forces ambushed his dismounted

5

patrol.

6

(4)  Cpl. Runyan is survived by his wife Courtney and

7

daughter Brynn.

(5)  Officer David Tome graduated from Spring Grove Area

9

High School in 1996. Following graduation, he enrolled at The

10

Pennsylvania State University and graduated in 2000.

11

(6)  In 2003, Officer Tome graduated from the 83rd Police

12

Academy at Harrisburg Area Community College and began his

13

career with the Northern York County Regional Police

14

Department.

15

(7)  Officer Tome died in the line of duty on October 21,

16

2008, while preparing to do forensic mapping for a vehicle

17

accident, when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

18

(8)  Officer Tome is survived by his wife, Dody, a son,

19

Elijah, and daughter, Josyln.

(b)  Designation.--The bridge carrying State Route 116 (York

21

Road) over a tributary to Codorus Creek in North Codorus

22

Township, York County, is designated the Corporal Luke S. Runyan

23

and Officer David Tome Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge.

24

(c)  Signs.–-The Department of Transportation shall erect and

25

maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to

26

traffic in both directions on the bridge.

27

Section 2.  Effective date.

28

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
