AN ACT

  

1

Designating U.S. Route 1 in Bucks County from mile marker 66.8

2

to mile marker 80.2 as the Detective Christopher Jones

3

Memorial Highway.

4

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Detective Christopher Jones Memorial Highway.

7

(a)  Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as

8

follows:

(1)  Officer Chris Jones graduated from Bensalem High

10

School in 1989 and attended a criminal justice course at

11

Chapman University in California while serving in the United

12

States Navy for seven years.

13

(2)  Officer Jones was honorably discharged from the Navy

14

as a Petty Officer 2nd Class in 1996. After leaving the Navy,

15

he returned to Bucks County and worked at the Bucks County

Prison for two years as a corrections officer.

(3)  Officer Jones became a patrolman for Middletown

3

Township in 1998. He is the first officer to lose his life in

4

the line of duty in the history of the Middletown Township

5

Police Department.

(4)  Officer Jones was on a traffic stop on the

7

northbound side of Route 1 near I-95 on the morning of

8

January 29, 2009, when a tragic accident occurred that

9

resulted in his death.

(b)  Designation.--U.S. Route 1 in Bucks County from mile

11

marker 66.8 to mile marker 80.2 is designated as the Detective

12

Christopher Jones Memorial Highway.

13

(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and

14

maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to

15

traffic in both directions.

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
