AN ACT

Designating the Pickertown Road Bridge carrying Pickertown Road

2

over the U.S. Route 202 Parkway in Warrington Township, Bucks

3

County, as the Robert V. Cotton Bridge.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Robert V. Cotton Bridge.

7

(a)  Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as

8

follows:

9

(1)  Robert V. Cotton is recognized as a long-time

10

proponent and tireless advocate for the construction of the

11

new 8.6-mile Route 202 Parkway in Bucks and Montgomery

12

counties. Mr. Cotton was a member of the Route 202

13

Improvement Committee from 1969 to 1971 and again from 1989

14

to 1996. He also has been a member of the Route 202 Task

15

Force from 2006 to the present time.

(2)  Mr. Cotton has been involved in local government in

17

Bucks County for four decades. He has served as a New Britain

18

Township supervisor for 36 years. He was first elected in

1972 and served through 1978. He was elected again in 1982

2

and has held that office since then. Mr. Cotton also held

3

three different positions with the Bucks County Association

4

of Township Officials, serving as director from 1982 to 1996,

5

as vice president from 1989 to 1992 and as president from

6

1992 to 1994.

(3)  Mr. Cotton also has been a volunteer emergency

8

responder for 50 years. He has been an active firefighter

9

with the Chalfont Fire Company since 1962 and recently was

10

recognized as an honored life member of the company.

(4)  He served as New Britain Township's fire marshal

12

from 1988 to 1996. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania

13

Fire and Emergency Services Institute's Advisory Board since

14

1991.

(5)  Mr. Cotton is a veteran of the Korean War, having

16

served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. An

17

electrical engineer by trade, he graduated with a degree in

18

that field from the University of Connecticut in 1956.

19

(6)  Mr. Cotton resides in Chalfont. He was married to

20

Margaret "Jean" Cotton for 54 years until her death in 2009.

They have two daughters and four grandchildren.

(b)  Designation.--The Pickertown Road Bridge carrying

23

Pickertown Road over the U.S. Route 202 Parkway in Warrington

24

Township, Bucks County, is designated as the Robert V. Cotton

25

Bridge.

(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and

27

maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to

28

traffic in both directions.

Section 2.  Effective date.

30

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
