A RESOLUTION

Honoring all military veterans on November 11, 2010.

2

WHEREAS, For more than two centuries, Americans from all

3

walks of life have taken up arms and sworn an oath to support

4

and defend the principles upon which our country was founded;

5

and

6

WHEREAS, The military service of Pennsylvanians has been

7

exemplary from the French and Indian War through our military

8

conflicts of today, and there have been more Congressional

9

Medals of Honor awarded to Pennsylvanians (378) than to

10

residents of any other state except New York (663); and

11

WHEREAS, Throughout our history, courageous men and women

12

have donned the uniform of our armed forces and built a noble

13

tradition of faithful and dedicated service to our nation and to

14

this Commonwealth; and

15

WHEREAS, Veterans Day has been set aside as both a national

and state holiday in all 50 states to honor the 50 million

2

patriots who answered the call of duty, preserving our freedoms,

3

while often making the ultimate sacrifice; and

4

WHEREAS, We can never fully repay our debt of gratitude to

5

those heroic men and women who served, were wounded, captured or

6

died in battle; and

7

WHEREAS, The unwavering commitment of our soldiers, sailors,

8

airmen, marines and coast guardsmen has preserved our freedoms

9

and saved millions around the world from tyranny; and

10

WHEREAS, We continue to draw inspiration from the heroism and

11

dedication of those who currently serve and sacrifice for the

12

cause of liberty and justice; and

13

WHEREAS, It is fitting that all Pennsylvanians honor

14

America's military veterans, including Pennsylvania's more than

15

one million living veterans, through whose service and sacrifice

16

we today enjoy freedom and liberty; therefore be it

17

RESOLVED, That the Senate ask all Pennsylvanians to honor the

18

contributions of current and former members of all branches of

19

the armed service on Veterans Day, November 11, 2010; and be it

20

further

21

RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage all citizens to

22

participate in local Veterans Day activities in their

23

communities honoring the men and women who have stood watch over

24

America, and to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our

25

veterans through ceremonies, prayers, display of the flag and

26

commemorative expressions and programs.
