A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2010, as "Nurses Week"

2

in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, which

4

includes 24 organizational affiliates and is the largest

5

professional nursing association in this Commonwealth; and

6

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association has

7

advanced the identity, integrity and the continuity of the

8

profession of nursing in this Commonwealth for more than 105

9

years; and

10

WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week," with the theme "Nurses:

11

Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow," begins May 6 and ends

12

May 12, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday; and

13

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has nearly 206,000 registered nurses,

14

including nearly 11,000 advanced practice nurses; and

15

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is working

16

diligently to chart a new course for a healthy Commonwealth that

relies on increasing the delivery of primary and preventative

2

health care, coupled with a strong focus on nursing care; and

3

WHEREAS, Nursing care provided by the registered nurses of

4

this Commonwealth is a paramount component to Pennsylvania's

5

health care delivery system; therefore be it

6

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 6 through

7

12, 2010, as "Nurses Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

8

RESOLVED, That the Senate join the Pennsylvania State Nurses

9

Association and other nursing organizations in recognizing the

10

selfless service of Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall

11

importance of quality nursing care.
