| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Commemorating the 200th anniversary of Susquehanna County. |
2 | WHEREAS, Susquehanna County was created by an act of the |
3 | General Assembly on February 21, 1810; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Susquehanna County is recognized for its scenic |
5 | beauty; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Susquehanna County is the location of some of the |
7 | most impressive architectural structures in the United States, |
8 | such as the Starrucca Viaduct, the oldest stone railroad bridge |
9 | still in use in the United States; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Susquehanna County has a rich and important |
11 | significance in history; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Montrose, the county seat of Susquehanna County, was |
13 | a station on the Underground Railroad; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Susquehanna County is the home of Old Mill Village, |
15 | a reconstructed community of authentic early buildings and |
16 | shops; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Susquehanna County was also the home of Galusha A. |
18 | Grow, former United States Representative and Speaker of the |

1 | House of Representatives in Washington, DC, who was the sponsor |
2 | of the Homestead Bill, which gave land to those who settled in |
3 | the western territories of the country; and |
4 | WHEREAS, February 21, 2010, marked the 200th anniversary of |
5 | the creation of Susquehanna County; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The residents of Susquehanna County have deep pride |
7 | in their communities and will honor their county with the theme |
8 | of "Celebrating Our Heritage" for the annual Independence Day |
9 | Parade in 2010; therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Senate commemorate the 200th anniversary |
11 | of Susquehanna County. |
