| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating Route 611, from Main Street in the Village of |
2 | Tobyhanna to Interstate 380 in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe |
3 | County, as the Trooper Joshua D. Miller Memorial Highway. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. Trooper Joshua D. Miller Memorial Highway. |
7 | (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as |
8 | follows: |
9 | (1) Trooper Joshua D. Miller was killed in the line of |
10 | duty on June 7, 2009, while attempting to apprehend a |
11 | kidnapping suspect. While engaged in a gun battle with the |
12 | suspect, another State trooper and a local police officer |
13 | were able to rescue the nine-year-old child who was being |
14 | abducted. |
15 | (2) Trooper Miller, age 34, was a six-year veteran of |
16 | the Pennsylvania State Police and had received several |
17 | commendations for his work protecting the citizens of this |

1 | Commonwealth. A resident of Pittston Township, Pennsylvania, |
2 | he is survived by his wife and three children. |
3 | (b) Designation.--Route 611, from Main Street in the Village |
4 | of Tobyhanna to Interstate 380 in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe |
5 | County, is hereby designated as the Trooper Joshua D. Miller |
6 | Memorial Highway. |
7 | (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
8 | maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to |
9 | traffic in both directions. |
10 | Section 2. Effective date. |
11 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
