| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An |
2 | act relating to the public school system, including certain |
3 | provisions applicable as well to private and parochial |
4 | schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the |
5 | laws relating thereto," in high schools, further providing |
6 | for academic degrees. |
7 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
8 | hereby enacts as follows: |
9 | Section 1. Section 1611 of the act of March 10, 1949 |
10 | (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is |
11 | amended by adding a subsection to read: |
12 | Section 1611. Academic Degrees.--* * * |
13 | (d) (1) A board of school directors may establish a program |
14 | to be known as "Operation Recognition" which provides for |
15 | granting a high school diploma to any honorably discharged |
16 | veteran who served in the United States military in the Vietnam |
17 | War between the fifteenth day of November, one thousand nine |
18 | hundred sixty-one, and the twenty-eighth day of March, one |

1 | thousand nine hundred seventy-three, who attended high school |
2 | between one thousand nine hundred fifty-eight and one thousand |
3 | nine hundred seventy-three and who would have been a member of a |
4 | graduation class during the years one thousand nine hundred |
5 | sixty-two through one thousand nine hundred seventy-five but did |
6 | not graduate from high school due to entry into military |
7 | service. |
8 | (2) A board of school directors may award a diploma |
9 | posthumously to an eligible veteran. |
10 | (3) An application for a diploma under this subsection must |
11 | be made in the manner prescribed by the board of school |
12 | directors. |
13 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
