| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled, |
2 | as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third, |
3 | fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending, |
4 | revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating |
5 | thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties, |
6 | including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the |
7 | rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and |
8 | providing for regional renaissance initiatives," authorizing |
9 | the abolition of jury commissioners in certain counties of |
10 | the second class A. |
11 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
12 | hereby enacts as follows: |
13 | Section 1. Section 401 of the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L. |
14 | 323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by adding a |
15 | subsection to read: |
16 | Section 401. Enumeration of Elected Officers.--* * * |
17 | (d.1) The office of jury commissioner may be abolished at |
18 | the option of each county which on the effective date of this |
19 | subsection is a county of the second class A having a population |
20 | under the 2000 Federal decennial census in excess of 595,000 |
21 | residents, but less than 625,000 residents, whenever the |
22 | governing body of the county adopts, by a majority vote, a |

1 | resolution abolishing the office of jury commissioner. Upon |
2 | approval of the resolution the office of jury commissioner shall |
3 | expire at the completion of the current jury commissioners' |
4 | terms of office. The resolution shall not be passed in any year |
5 | in which the office of jury commissioners is on the ballot. |
6 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 30 days. |
