AN ACT

Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled,

2

as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third,

3

fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending,

4

revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating

5

thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties,

6

including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the

7

rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and

8

providing for regional renaissance initiatives," authorizing

9

the abolition of jury commissioners in certain counties of

10

the second class A.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

12

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  Section 401 of the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.

14

323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by adding a

15

subsection to read:

Section 401.  Enumeration of Elected Officers.--* * *

17

(d.1)  The office of jury commissioner may be abolished at

18

the option of each county which on the effective date of this

19

subsection is a county of the second class A having a population

20

under the 2000 Federal decennial census in excess of 595,000

21

residents, but less than 625,000 residents, whenever the

22

governing body of the county adopts, by a majority vote, a

resolution abolishing the office of jury commissioner. Upon

2

approval of the resolution the office of jury commissioner shall

3

expire at the completion of the current jury commissioners'

4

terms of office. The resolution shall not be passed in any year

5

in which the office of jury commissioners is on the ballot.

6

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 30 days.
