INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, SEPTEMBER 20, 2010  

A RESOLUTION

Commemorating the month of November 2010 as "National Adoption

Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is committed to helping find safe,

permanent and loving homes for children who need homes through

adoption; and

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has demonstrated its commitment

through various programs, including the Pennsylvania Adoption

Exchange, the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN),

the Internet website www.adoptpakids.org and the toll-free

hotline 1-800-585-SWAN; and

WHEREAS, Since the inception of SWAN in 1992, more than

21,000 children have been adopted from the Pennsylvania child

welfare system; and

WHEREAS, Despite these many successes, there remains a need

for safe, permanent and loving homes; and

WHEREAS, The many caring families who have provided improved,

more stable lives to children through adoption deserve to be

recognized and honored; and

WHEREAS, November 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of

"National Adoption Awareness Month" observances in the United

States and the 34th anniversary of "National Adoption Week";

therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in congruence

with national recognition, commemorate the month of November

2010 as "National Adoption Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania and

recommit to the goal of helping to find a safe, permanent and

loving home for each child in this Commonwealth who needs one.
