A RESOLUTION

  

1

Extending condolences to the family of Private First Class David

2

Anthony Jefferson, who died July 2, 2010, in Kandahar,

3

Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked

4

his unit using an improvised explosive device.

5

WHEREAS, Private First Class (PFC) David Anthony Jefferson

6

was the son of two Army veterans and brother of a member of the

7

Air Force, so service to our country was second nature to him;

8

and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, PFC Jefferson

2

attended Lankenau High School in Germantown and entered the

3

military to follow the family tradition; and

4

WHEREAS, PFC Jefferson, a medic, was assigned to the 1st

5

Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team,

6

101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), at Fort Campbell,

7

Kentucky; and

8

WHEREAS, PFC Jefferson was deployed to Afghanistan in May in

9

support of Operation Enduring Freedom and died July 2, 2010, in

10

Kandahar of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit

11

using an improvised explosive device; and

12

WHEREAS, When PFC Jefferson's body arrived at Dover Air Force

13

Base on Sunday evening, July 4, his father, a 30-year Army

14

veteran, was there for him and for the customary ceremony of a

15

fallen soldier; and

16

WHEREAS, PFC Jefferson, who was predeceased by his mother,

17

Annette, is survived by his wife, Darniece T. Melton-Jefferson;

18

his son, Ian; his father, James; his brother, William; his

19

grandmother, Mildred; and a large family who will always

20

remember him as a quiet, caring, calm and loving young man; and

21

WHEREAS, PFC Jefferson courageously gave his life and paid

22

the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our country, and he

23

will always be remembered for his heroism; therefore be it

24

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend

25

condolences to the family of Private First Class David Anthony

26

Jefferson, who died July 2, 2010, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of

27

injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an

28

improvised explosive device; and be it further

29

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

30

his wife, Darniece Melton-Jefferson, and grandmother, Mildred
