A RESOLUTION

Urging government support of post deployment transition programs

2

in an effort to ensure the successful assimilation and

3

reintegration of military personnel returning from active

4

duty.

5

WHEREAS, The Veterans Administration provides superior care

6

for veterans coping with various health issues, but, returning

7

soldiers require additional assistance with transitioning back

8

into day-to-day life; and

9

WHEREAS, Beyond health concerns, military personnel returning

10

from active duty face several issues such as employment needs,

11

financial troubles, education needs and difficulty adjusting to

12

day-to-day life; and

13

WHEREAS, Over the last year, veteran suicides have eclipsed

14

battlefield deaths, and unemployment among young Iraq and

15

Afghanistan veterans has risen to almost twice the national

16

average; and

WHEREAS, The closing of the Governor's Veterans Outreach

2

Assistance Centers has meant the loss of key programs that

3

assisted veterans with job placement and occupational training;

4

and

5

WHEREAS, Organizations such as AMVETS and Freedom & Honor

6

have heard the call of veterans and responded to their needs

7

both valiantly and diligently; and

8

WHEREAS, Programs such as the Warrior Transition Workshops

9

offered by AMVETS and Freedom & Honor have served to allow

10

veterans to bond over their shared experiences, recognize

11

changes in themselves as a result of their time in combat and

12

discover ways to turn potential negatives of war into positives

13

moving forward; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the

15

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognize the importance of post

16

deployment transition programs and urge Congress and the

17

President of the United States to augment such programs.
