INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 30, 2010  

A RESOLUTION

Honoring the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta in the City of

Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta is the largest

inland regatta in the United States, founded to celebrate

community camaraderie and to promote the city's treasured

waterscape which defines Pittsburgh's unique topography and

personality; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta is the tri-

state's largest summertime event, attracting half a million

people to one of the country's premier Fourth of July

celebrations, making it the region's most prolific festival of

free family entertainment; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta provides a

multimillion dollar impact annually to the local economy and

sports one of the top ten Fourth of July fireworks displays

nationwide; and

WHEREAS, More than 500,000 spectators attend the Pittsburgh

Three Rivers Regatta over a two-day period each July, gathering

at the city's spectacular North Shore and historic Point State

Park; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta regularly

features world champion performers in extreme air, water and

land sports to create unrivaled showmanship on the water; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta presents free

concerts, water ski shows, bass fishing tournaments, national

dragon boat championships, kid zones and grants for water and

river related organizations; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta promotes

innovative water fun through such unique competitions as its

"Anything That Floats" race; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta is the largest

venue on the powerboat racing circuit in the country and will

serve as host to the 2010 North American Powerboat Racing

championships; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta is one of this

Commonwealth's most famous outdoor tourism attractions and

greatest promotional extravaganza for one of the nation's most

prominent and prized commercial ports; and

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta has become a

Fourth of July tradition in western Pennsylvania, now entering

its 33rd year, and has created spectacular and treasured

memories for citizens across the United States; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the

Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta in the City of Pittsburgh and

western Pennsylvania; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta, Three Gateway Center, 401

Liberty Avenue, 22nd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
