A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of May 2010 as "Military Families Month"

2

in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to military service

4

members and families representing every branch of the armed

5

forces; and

6

WHEREAS, Our active duty service members and our citizen-

7

soldiers in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and Reserves

8

continually make tremendous sacrifices in service to this

9

Commonwealth and the nation; and

10

WHEREAS, Military families are the civilians who also serve,

often facing such challenges as long separations from loved ones

2

and frequent moves to bases across the country or around the

3

globe; and

4

WHEREAS, Many also volunteer to provide support to deployed

5

service members and aid to fellow military families; and

6

WHEREAS, Caring individuals and organizations, such as the

7

Blue Star Families, Blue Star Mothers and Gold Star Mothers, are

8

dedicated to connecting military families and their communities

9

throughout Pennsylvania and across the country; and

10

WHEREAS, By creating awareness about programs and services

11

available to the military community and their family members and

12

by serving as their advocates, such organizations make life

13

easier for the men and women who selflessly serve and defend our

14

country; and

15

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is proud to recognize and honor the

16

families of our service members, who, through their love and

17

support of their loved ones serving and each other, also help

18

ensure our continued freedom, liberty and way of life; therefore

19

be it

20

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

21

month of May 2010 as "Military Families Month" in Pennsylvania

22

in honor of America's military families and encourage our

23

citizens to recognize the outstanding contributions that these

24

families have made to aid those who defend our nation.
