A RESOLUTION

  

1

Congratulating the Jeannette High School Girls Basketball Team

2

for winning the 2009-2010 Western Pennsylvania

3

Interscholastic Athletic League Class AA championship.

4

WHEREAS, On March 6, 2010, the Jeannette High School Girls

5

Basketball Team defeated the Seton-La Salle Catholic High School

6

Rebels by a score of 39-36 to become the 2009-2010 Western

7

Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Class AA

8

champions; and

9

WHEREAS, In scoring this victory over its worthy rivals in

10

the championship game, the Jeannette High School Girls

11

Basketball Team achieved its first-ever WPIAL title; and 

12

WHEREAS, Led by Head Coach Janine Vertacnik, the Jeannette

13

Lady Jayhawks repeatedly dominated their opponents this season,

14

defeating numerous teams by 30 points or more; and

15

WHEREAS, In January 2010, the Jayhawks girls basketball team

drew the first sellout crowd in the history of its program,

2

which reflected its growing record of wins that made the Lady

3

Jayhawks the team-to-beat; and

4

WHEREAS, On the road to its 24 victories, with only two

5

losses, Coach Vertacnik attributed the team's success to its

6

hard work and to players enthusiastically cooperating with her

7

system; and

8

WHEREAS, This championship victory required a complete team

9

effort, with the team playing great defense and supporting each

10

other on offense, as the Lady Jayhawks rallied from behind to

11

win the game in the final minutes of the fourth quarter; and

12

WHEREAS, Coach Vertacnik displayed an effective rapport with

13

her team, having coached a number of the same players for

14

several years, which contributed to a winning team chemistry;

15

and

16

WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the Lady Jayhawks

17

demonstrated good sportsmanship, determination and an impressive

18

team spirit, reflecting their commitment to each other, their

19

school and their fellow students and becoming a source of

20

community pride; therefore be it

21

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the

22

Jeannette High School Girls Basketball Team for winning the

23

2009-2010 Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League

24

Class AA championship.
