A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of March 7 through 13, 2010, as "Girl Scout

2

Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, March 12 marks the 98th anniversary of Girl Scouts

4

of the United States; and 

5

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in

6

1912 in Savannah, Georgia; and

7

WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting

8

has inspired millions of girls and women with the highest ideals

9

of courage, confidence and character; and

10

WHEREAS, Through the Girl Scout leadership experience, girls

11

develop the skills and lessons that will serve them a lifetime

12

so that they may contribute to their communities; and

13

WHEREAS, Girl Scouting takes an active role in increasing

girls' awareness of the opportunities available to them today in

2

mathematics, science, sports, technology and other fields that

3

can expand their horizons; and

4

WHEREAS, More than 3 million current Girl Scout members

5

nationwide will be celebrating 98 years of this American

6

tradition, with nearly 50 million women who are former Girl

7

Scouts and living proof of the impact of this amazing movement;

8

therefore be it

9

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

10

week of March 7 through 13, 2010, as "Girl Scout Week" in

11

Pennsylvania.
