A RESOLUTION

Designating April 14, 2010, as "Abington Community Library Day"

2

in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The Abington Community Library Association was

4

founded January 11, 1960, to create a library serving the people

5

of Clarks Summit, Clarks Green and South Abington Township; and

6

WHEREAS, The Abington Community Library soon thereafter

7

extended its service as a free library for all the residents of

8

the Abington Heights School District, including patrons from

9

Abington, Glenburn, Newton, North Abington, Ransom, West

10

Abington and Scott Township in Lackawanna County; and

11

WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, the library has served the

12

people in its service area by providing adults, teens and

13

children with books and other materials that enhance the quality

14

of life in the community; and

15

WHEREAS, The library has provided Story Hours, reference

16

books, magazines and various other media, computer access, quiet

17

reading areas and community programs during its tenure; and

18

WHEREAS, As a member of the Lackawanna County Library System,

the library cooperates with other member libraries to make its

2

holdings and services accessible to all county residents,

3

maintaining a useful, current and reliable collection in print,

4

nonprint and electronic formats; and

5

WHEREAS, The library's mission is to facilitate lifelong

6

learning, provide for leisure-time interests, support student

7

research and encourage teens, children and adults to read;

8

therefore be it

9

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April

10

14, 2010, as "Abington Community Library Day" in Pennsylvania.
